Members of the Independence Committee

Joint Committee of the Filipino Progress Association and New England Anti-Imperialist League

On April 13, 1907 the Filipino Progress Association hosted a meeting with members of the New England Anti-Imperialist League designed to create a independence plan for the Philippines. Both organizations had several differences which dated back to the split in 1904. Namely the Filipino Progress Association advocated a protectorate type independence as was the case with the Platt Amendment in Cuba. The anti-imperialists demanded full independence. The anti-imperialists were entirely unwavering in this demand. President of the Filipino Progress Association, Horace White accepted their terms, but before the group could hear a reply from the government disbanded the Filipino Progress Association, promising never to deal with the anti-imperialists again.
