Members of the Washington Anti-Imperialist League
Established as a regional League to the American Anti-Imperialist League
Before any official anti-imperialist institutional actions were taken in Washington, an office to oppose the ratification of the Treaty of Paris (1898) was established at Jackson Ralston's residence. Ralston was the legal representative of Filipé Agoncillo, the representative of Aguinaldo's government in the U.S. After the summer of 1899, William Croffut held a meeting in his home officially creating the Washington Anti-Imperialist League. Being in the nation's capital, the Washington League was instrumental in forging relations with anti-imperialist lawmakers and federal politicians. In 1902 the League was disbanded and the remaining members created the Washington Liberty League.
